A Crab’s Perspective

When we have nature walks on the tidal flats, we want participants to understand their impact on the environment, particularly on the crabs that live there. This exhibit shows how things appear to a crab. People are huge! Our boots can crush a crab, and our hand shovels can cut a crab in half if we are not careful. However, the crab’s most fearsome enemy is not a human. It is the whimbrel. This bird, which comes to Fujimae Tidal Flat in the spring, is a hunter and uses its long beak to catch and eat crabs.
