Egrets and Herons

Egrets and herons all go under the name “sagi” in Japanese. The grey heron, the great egret, and the little egret are residents and can be seen all year round hunting fish at Fujimae Tidal Flat. The other egrets and herons stop by in summer and spend their days in nearby rice paddies looking for frogs and other food. Recently, a few spoonbills, including the endangered black-faced spoonbill spend the winter here.
