The eel in the fish tank was caught at Fujimae Tidal Flat. Eels hatch in the ocean and come to Japan as glass eels. When they arrive at the mouths of rivers, they find abundant food in the shallow waters. Eels have been a delicacy in Japan for centuries, but they are now an endangered species. Part of this exhibit explores the folklore surrounding eels.
