In 2002, we began a training program for tidal flat rangers that we call “gatarangers.” This unique program aims to train rangers who can guide visitors on tours as the number of visitors increases. The program consists of a practical 30-hour course that mixes field trips and guided tours. Since its inception, more than 130 people (as of 2022) have completed the course and been certified as gatarangers. They are active as leaders and guide nature walks for experiential learning at the Fujimae Tidal Flat. They also work as staff members at the local centers. Many university students take the course, which serves as an opportunity for them to broaden their environmental education and training. We are always happy to have people join the course and become a part of the Fujimae Tidal Flat community.
